IBPE / Why an Independent Examination Board?

Why an Independent Examination Board?

Teaching and examination serve different purposes.

01

Separate responsibilities

An academy is responsible for teaching. An examination board is responsible for determining whether a candidate has demonstrated the required competence. IBPE operates the examination process separately from the teaching process.

02

What independence requires

  • Published examination standards
  • Defined assessment criteria
  • Structured practical examinations
  • Independent examiners
  • Examiner conflict-of-interest controls
  • Moderation procedures
  • Controlled examination conditions
  • Documented results
  • Verifiable examination records
  • Published examination policies

03

The principle

The person who teaches you should not be the sole person who decides whether you have demonstrated professional competence.

Financial and operational independence
