01
The moderation principle
A candidate’s result should reflect demonstrated competence, not the centre at which the candidate was examined. Moderation reduces variation between examiners and centres.
02
Quality controls may include
- Standardised examination briefs
- Examiner calibration
- Independent marking
- Sampling
- Statistical review
- Centre-level analysis
- Re-marking where required
- Examiner performance review
- Examination reports
03
Approved operating details
Sampling rates, reconciliation rules, statistical thresholds, re-mark triggers and reporting responsibilities must come from the approved policy. The applicable approved policy will define any numerical thresholds.
